Did you know that emotions are stored in different parts of the body?
For example: grief is stored in our lungs (have you ever felt like grief has taken all the breath out of your lungs? I have dealt with a lot of grief based anxiety the last year that has left me feeling like I’m literally suffocating - now I understand why I feel like I couldn’t breathe) Fear is stored in our kidneys, worry is stored in our stomach, anger storied in the liver + gallbladder, and stress stored in the heart. Fear based emotions like those above can really take a toll on our bodies.
As I’ve studied more about auto immune disease, and toxic stress on the body and organs, it makes total sense that my Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis came in the midst of some of the hardest months of my life (well and because Zola would later join our family ;)). I can’t tell you how many stories I’ve heard of people being diagnosed right after a traumatic event.
Childhood trauma and adversity dramatically effect health across a lifetime. The greater the adversity, the greater chance for chronic disease, depression, etc.
